How strict are you about meat-based ingredients? Do you make waiters go back and double-check whether there's chicken stock in the risotto? Do you have a "don't ask, don't tell policy" when it comes to the refried beans at Mexican restaurants?

I don't make a huge deal of it. If I really want it and it's made with chicken stock then I have it. But I usually won't order it if I think it has meat in it in any way. I do eat beans at Mexican places tho' ocassionally. We really don't eat out that often so it's not come up that much.

I'm pretty strict, much to the dismay of the waiters. One woman at a mexican restaurant asked me why I was so obsessed with lard! I When I was vegan, though, I had a "don't ask don't tell" policy at restaurants when ordering food that most likely was vegan. I would just assume that the bread was vegan, for example. I didn't want to go hungry!

I am not that strict when it comes to restaurants. I just try to order something that doesn't have any reason to use meat. But I have never asked if they use chicken stock in the potatoes or anything like that. Like someone else said I don't want to starve. For the most part with anything I eat at a restaurant I have a 'don't ask, don't tell' policy....My dad worked in a few restaurants....you don't even want to know....

I am very strict about it. I won't eat it until I know what exactly is inside. If a place offers meat and veggieburgers I wouldn't eat a veggieburger there, because it would be grilled on the same grill as meat. I hate the thought that they stir my vegetable soup with the same spoon they stir the chicken soup...that's why I don't go to "regular" restaurants..maybe once a year...to eat some salad...from the salad bar. I prefer to go to vegetarian/vegan restaurants.

I'm not that strict - I don't ask if there is chicken stock in the soup and stuff - usually I just hope there isn't in my tomato soup :) If I am served something with meat in it - I of course won't eat it anyway just to be polite.
