In Italy this movie is not gone out to the cinema, it will go out on april. I've seen the trailer and it seem incredible! I don't know if it's historically reliable, however the scenery and the special effects are amazing!!! The actors of Leonida is the same of Beowulf and Attila. I like him a lot!!

saw the trailer and it got me smiling in awe til the end. i don't care about how historically accurate it may be or not, i just want to see it in the movies.. can't wait for it to be shown..

I would love to se this movie! While I have only heard of the graphic novel 300, I did read a wonderful dramatization of the Battle of Thermopylae called Gates of Fire several years ago by Steven Pressfield.
About the subject of historical reliabilty:
I think that the retelling of this battle has been so common in oral tradition and Greek literature since the 5th century B.C. that it is likely to have been altered dramatically since then just in the telling and retelling of the story.
With a story of this magnitude, I would expect that the movie makers will add some drama. It's an action/ war movie and there is very little room for romantic drama, so I hope they don't add any just to make the movie less gorey and more palatable for many female viewers.
I'll try to see this at the theatre if it comes near me soon and I'll post my opinion.

NO, NOT MUCH IDEA ABOUT THEGRAPHIC VERSION.. but to me 300 is an absolutely terrific movie. the attitude, the valour the spartans display send a chill down my spine. so much to keep their honour. they challenged and even demured a person who projected himself as god. i think they were bogged down by the wrong priests who just had no respect for these warriors. my personal favorite line in the movie when the king says : SPARTANS NEVER RETREAT!!!!!!!!!!. the greatest sequence when the king as a young lad fights the beast and also , when he kicks the intruder into the well..
