Apparently I'm confused by what you mean by cool drinks. Do you strictly mean the temp. of the drink? Or does that mean, like Coke or something. I do agree that kids shouldn't have soda but I didn't think a cool glass of water wasn't ok. I give my 5 year old drinks right out of the fridge all the time. Always have. Ashley

I try to avoid soda, for kids especially. But I try to avoid it for myself too. The carbonation and sugar are not good for you. I never really gave my daughter soda so she really doesn't like it that much. When we go to a resturant she will ask for lemonade, orange juice, or chocolate milk. But the coldness of the drink has never been an issue. I didn't know that in some places they say not to drink cold drinks. She never drinks anything warm except on the rare occassion we have hot chocolate. Which is like once a year. Ashley

Generally in India the cool drinks are mixed with some chemicals(pesticide residuals). Recently they were published the details of percentage of chemicals mixed in the drinks. Still the matter is mostly debatable in the country. So it is better to go with fruit juices.

I don't think there's anything wrong with giving cool drinks to kids under five, as long as you don't go fizzy too soon, and limit the orange squash, because this makes them hyperactive. Some good cool drinks to give your toddler are milk, apple juice, blackcurrant (sugar free), orange juice (not squash), lemon squash and flavoured water. These should do him more good than harm, but at the dinner table, try to coax him to drink warm. Warm drinks with or following a meal, help with digestion and break down the fat content in the food. All kids have a never-ending thirst, because they're always running around and working up a sweat, so there's no problem with re-hydrating them with a cold drink, especially a water-based one. You can get apple cordial these days and I would think that's one of the best.
