what is a gulf?

an arm of a sea or ocean partly enclosed by land; larger than a bay. A gulf is a part of the ocean that is partly surrounded by land. A gulf cuts into the shoreline. It is similar to a bay, but a gulf goes farther inland than a bay does. A gulf is also bigger than a bay.a body of water existing within a large embayment of a continental coastline
