What do you believe the monster in 'Lost' really is?

I will take a stab at this question.. I think that the monster is only called the islands security system because it cant be given any other name by those who dont know what it really is. My guess is that the company that put the "others" on the island somehow detained some lost tribal spirits that were once living on the island and they are still protecting it. The "others" seem to have extraordinary power, so its not so far fetched that they could have contained some supernatural entity inside a machine that makes that horrible sound.

Of course it is not really. Because the France woman say it is a recovery system. So it must be a machine with Island.
