Children should be allowed to have E-mail as soon as they can spell. All incoming and outgoing mail should be supervised by an adult and kids should not give out the address w/out permission. My kids are 8, 10, & 13. They all have addresses but I monitor thier use. The privilege should be earned and maintained and the children should be made aware of the consequences as well as the dangers of not following the rules. Kids can only grow as long as they have room.

Do you feel it's safe to not monitor their emails?

i really think it depends on the child, i think maybe age nine would be ok but you should have access to it and keep an eye on it.

Under the strict supervision of their parents, I would say at age 7. I got a BA in Elementary Education and kids this age can type and get communicated electronically under supervision.

it all depends on the child, I let my daughter have one at 10 and 11, but I also had access to their accounts, to make sure no one was sending them anything in appropriate. As long as thats a condition, I would think that would be an acceptable age to have a monitored account
