your kid is in kindergarten and you think that he is not doing anything or learning. your kid might not learn the whole alphabet or can't compute in mathematics but this i tell you my friend, he is learning the basics in life. in kindergarten there are so much time playing. you think he don't learn, well, he is. he learn how to take turns, how to say courteous words such as thank you's and please's, how to pray before eating their food and stuff like that. you do not expect much from your kid because he is only in kindergarten. but you must be supportive of him and the teacher because the thing he do in school means so much for his growing years. like in his playing, he develops his muscles, may learn to be social with other kids his age. so, don't rush...he will soon learn the academic side of the school later on.

i see what you are saying and he has been doing most of that before school but what i am worried about is my hubby is army so we move and the school he started at will be the school he is going back to the beginning of next year and they were doing things his first 3 weeks of school there that they won't even be talking about here and i am worried that when we do move back there he will be behind the others and i don't want that to bother him cuz he really likes school. so i just worry about him changing schools and being behind everyone else. thanks for the response

I homeschool the 5 children I still have at home [3 are grown]. I do have a daughter who will be 6 this month. I can give you an idea of what she does, even though she's not in public school. In reading she is working on phonics and sight words. This has led into spelling. Her handwriting is wonderful for her age. As for Math, she can count to 100 by 1,5's, and 10's ; knows 0 and 1 math facts, can do various other addition and subtraction especially in the form of a word problem. She has colors, sorting, graphing/ charting [as in Vinn graphs],etc. pretty much mastered. She knows months and days. Usually she can tell time on the hour, starting to get the 1/2 hour. She understands what a noun and most of what a verb is. She knows most of the first 20 presidents in order. She knows various Science things, like what makes rain, etc. She is learning Spanish. That's an idea of what she's been or is learning. I don't know if that will help you since she is homeschooled.
