How open are you with people about the fact that you take Prozac or other psychiatric medications? Do you feel like it's shameful, merely private, or just no big deal like taking Benadryl when your nose is runny?

I think psychiatric medications are overused in our society, however they do have a place and there are too many people out there who desperately need to be on something but refuse to and remain unhappy or angry their whole lives. I am open with the fact that I take prozac due to depression caused by my recurrent pregnancy loss/post partum. However, I won't just tell anybody. I will tell close friends and my own family but I won't tell co-workers or my in-laws or distant relatives.

I have no problem telling people that I take prozac. I'm not ashamed at all, I have a condition that needs treatment, that's all there is to it.

I will tell people who ask. I will also tell people who express that they are struggling with a decision to go on antidepressants ... because my experience with them has been so positive, and I want them to try to see if they can feel better, too. I don't throw it out there to just anyone, though. Mind you, I wouldnt do that about Benadryl either.
