Why it's better to love than be loved?

I sometimes doubt if my boyfriend loves me or not because he is cold. Once I confront him why he is cold, he just answered, "It's who I am." I just keep that question to myself and just soak in mind that "It's Better to love than be loved, why? because, it's surer. "

It is better to love, but it also can end up hurting you alot. I did that with my last ex and he was never really appreciative of it until I left. That was enough of a slap to the face for him to realize he should at least be somewhat appreciative. I wouldnt waste my time on someone who was cold and unappreciative, it wears you out emotionally.

Yes, your idea could be true too. And I'm happy that you get tired of loving him since you couldn't be loved back by him. Well, it's not hurting to your part I think for you've done all what you can and it will be him who will regret that he had lost you. It will teach him lesson too. It's sad to say that some people can only appreciate things if they lost it.

Thank you for the reply. Well, my boyfriend and I now, broke up because I just knew that he has another girlfriend too. But anyway, I understand why was he sometimes cold.

It is better to love than to not be loved but I agree that in a relationship, its a two way street (of give and take). If your the one who keeps giving without receiving, then its not a two way street, someone is using the other. On the other hand, I've heard of love languages and that people show love the way they know. so maybe your boyfriend dosen't show you love romantically (poems, cards, etc) but does in other ways like being there for you, listening, spending time with you, etc. Check out this website and see what love languages you both have www.fivelovelanguages.com/learn.html Good luck!

i think it's better to love then be loved because it shows your capability to feel towards others. anybody can be loved, but not everyone has the ability to love back. life, if you ask me, would be way more enjoyable loving and hurting then not being able to feel anything at all.

yes, it's true. Loving someone makes you feel alive eventhough you are not loved back.

Maybe it is just normal that sometimes if you are in a longer relationship it normal to happen what you have to do is make some action or let him feel that you love him if it does not work then there is something wrong with your relationship.

well, it's actually effective. Sometimes, when he is too uncaring, I just surprise him with things that interests him. Sending poems, his favorite things. etc..It's soo challenging to love an uncaring boyfriend. There sometimes you find youself better, sometimes in sweetness.

I do agree with you that its better to love than be loved. Let's put it this way, its better if you'll be with the person you love than be with the person who loves you but you didn't love. I know that being loved by someone is a good feeling but don't you think that you would want it more if its done by your love one. And for me, its much easier for me to sacrifice and be hurt by the one I love rather than the one who loves me.. =)
