Have you ever eaten venison? This is one of the main meats I grew up on. Where I live, hunters come from all around to hunt the white tailed deer for the venison. You have to buy a hunting license, and shells for your gun. After that you can go out in the woods and wait for your deer to come along. You may only shoot the male deer (bucks) unless you have a permit to shoot the females (does) so that the deer population does not decrease too much. The venison is one of my favorite meats, and can be fixed in a variety of ways. When cutting up the deer there is a strip of meat along the back that can be cut into steaks. This is called the tenderloin and makes these are one of my favorite parts of the deer. You can also get steaks from other parts of the deer along with roasts, stew meat, sausage, or venison hamburger from the deer. We also eat the heart and liver of the deer, although some people are not to fond of these. My favorites are the tenderloin steaks and venison hamburger. Have you ever eaten venison? If so, what are your favorite parts? If not, would you try it?

I had it once (it was a roast) and I didn't like it. I can't explain why, exactly. I was used to hamburger and such, I guess, so it tasted weird to me. My dad swears that deer jerkey is the best, but I've never had that.

Ahhh the great hunt LOL The brood refused to eat venison, they didn't like that fact that dear old mom would go out in the woods and kill Bambi. The first one I got wasn't all that big but did have a lot of meat. I ended up with hamburger patties, ground meat and some nice pieces for jerky. One thing that the ground meat is great for is tacos. There is almost no grease in the meat so you do have to watch it so it doesn't burn. They gleefully ate their tacos and never notcied a difference in the taste. When one of them saw me taking the non-labeled packs of meat out of the freezer he asked me where I got it since there were no store markings on it. They were a tad bit sore that I didn't tell them it was deer meat, they never asked. Now most of them eat it without and complaints. To me it saves a lot of money on buying meat and I really enjoy the taste of it. Deer jerky is awesome and a LOT cheaper than what you buy in the store. Even if you have to make it yourself, buying a dehydrator and the spices (if you want to add any) still puts you way ahead where jerky is concerned.

You're right, venison makes great jerkey, and buying a dehydrator isn't a bad investment if you want to make much of it, especially when you consider the cost of jerkey that you buy in the stores these days. I absolutely love venison burgers. You are right about it not haveing much fat at all. Sometimes we mix it with a little hamburger just to make the burgers hold together when having a cookout so that they won't fall apart on the grill. It does make great tacos, and anything else you would normally make with hamburger, and you're right, it is a lot cheaper

I have never tried it mixed with pork. We have mixed it with beef hamburger before and that was good. I bet the tamales were good. Thanks for your response.
