Backstabbers

How would you deal with backstabbers at work? I mean the type who snitch on you to managers and supervisors about your performance, when it's either not much worse than theirs, or you're still learning. Other than taking them outside for a quick left and right, which is what I'm literally more than happy to do, what would you do?
