Windows media player not running .dat file some times.....

wmp - WMP is an acronyme for Windows Media Player.This is a software used to run audio and video files on computer.

I have noticed that some times my windows media player does not run .dat files. I get movies on rent the video file is in the format of .dat.It runds on my pc using WMP.But a month ago mycousin asked me to run her cd on computer which they have shooted in their office.It was not running.Why was it not supporting that file.I have noted this many times.Please tell me what could be the reason and how to solve that problem.

hey make sure that the ".dat" file is a video file...beacause some system files are also in the ".dat" format....make sure that they file is not corrected and there were no problems while burning the disc...

yeh i know some system files are also in .dat format.This .dat file which i want to run is a video file which was recorded on camcorder.

You have not given any details about the error or some information that WMP may be giving when it is not running the file. Its inmortant that you specify the error here....

This problem may occur only due to 2 reasons... 1) Either you dont have latest .dat runtimes which were used for that Cd or... 2)The Cd is not properly written. Try reinstalling Windows Media Player, Otherwise try the same file in Real Media player or winamp if it works then problem is with winsows media player or the problem is with the CD
