I was spooked last Friday when our 4-year old blighter came home from chool, only to announce that their class teacher has instructed that they come dressed ONLY in RED attire next Wednesday, 14 Feb 2007! Deliberately asked her why, she pooped, "It's Valentine's, Dad, don't you know?" I was at a loss of words. Do you think kids should also go through this annual frenzy and vanity?

I don't have any children so perhaps I'm not the right one to ask. Valentine's day can be two things, one a commercial hallmark holiday and two a celebration of love. I suppose it depends on what aspect the teacher is taking. I think it would be cute if the kids made valentine's for their parent. I mean who says V-day has to be about your partner? It can be your child, your parent, your friend. Perhaps if they learn at an early age that V day can be a day where you step back, take a moment and appreciate the loves you have in your life then I am all for it.
