How do you chose which discussion is the one to respond to? Serious Question.

I am confused, according to mylot guidelines... 'Dont: Post similar or identical postings. Stealing posts from other users or posting the same thing over and over again will not help your myLot earnings. Multiple identical postings, even if legitimate, may be considered spam.' So how do you chose when there are 10 discussions about the same thing? How do you know which ones will be deleted as spam, if any? I usually do a search before I post, however I have noticed when it's a news item, by the time I get it posted so have 3 or 4 others in the same 5 minute period. So I know sometimes it's just something that happens. I'm not referring to copied discussions. So have you thought of this? Do you have any suggestions? I just want to do thing right and don't want my responses deleted...any help?

I usually reply to the interesting or known topics. If they were doubled, tripled, or whatever, I reply to the one with the most responses and usually the oldest one because there is the highest chance that it was the original one.

Oh yes, I think that's it. I should reply to the oldest one and that would probably keep me safer in that respect. Thank you so much for that. I don't know where my brain was...that seems so simple...lol

I answer the one's I feel I have an answer for and ignore the one's that I have no answer to give . I find there are a lot on here that are the same but I still answer them if I have something that I feel I can add to or would just like to state my opinion . I don't understand all that they have in the guidelines so I just keep hoping that I am doing things right but as of so far don't seem to have done anything wrong .

Well you must be doing something right...lol You have a nice blue star... I've been working so hard at trying to get my 10 back. Yesterday I was at 94/100 and today I am down to 91/100. I understand about respoding to discussions that interest me..but what if there are lots of the same discussion? How do you chose or do you just answer them all?

First thing I go to my friend's discussion and give responses which one catch my interest and have knowledge to write something about. After my friend's discussions I just choose one to response according to my interest. If I find some similer discussions I just go to the oldest one and make the response.

I understand what you are saying abut news items but I am afraid I post what comes in to my head. I post it right away incase I forget it and then it is too late to do anything about it. That's why I would like to delete my own postings.

Oh, I hear you there. I would much rather delete my discussion than be accused of copying..lol Maybe they will add that, so at least we can delete it before it gets responses. It wouldn't be fair to delete it after someone had responded.

I agree with you here. I wish there was a delete button that we can hit. Sometimes I accidentally post my discussion in a wrong group and there is no way to correct it. That really infuriates me as I dont wan to double post.

If the topic interest me I will respond to it even it gets deleted later ...have had that happen btw...lol...but at least I could add my 2 cents worth in before they tossed it ... Sometimes there are several different discussions started that are very close and I try to chose form one of my friends at that point as to which one I will respond to ...or it just might be the way one is worded and I can understand exactly what the question is ...sometimes its a very vague question and those a retogh for me ...

It depends on my mood and how serious I am at the time. I'll choose some intellectual ones if I'm feeling a bit with it, will go for the less thoughtful ones sometimes if I'm just bored. I don't really search first for other posts when I start one. I feel that #1, I'm asking it my own way. #2, it's my general group of friends that usually answer so there's a bunch out there that don't even notice. #3, who has time to search before you post, then post? They don't pay enough to spend THAT amount of time in posts! LOL

I usually only search for discussions when I am bored with what I've been seeing or I use my interests to find a good one..but I don't really do it that often.

i know what you mean because i have had so many of my friends start a discussion about anna nicole and i didn't reply to any of them. i also do not reply to any of the recipe ones. i figure if they delete one or two of the discussions i reply to a day, i am okay.

myLot is a content based site so I look for the discussion that was started with the best content. So many may be the same but some are just started with better content and that is what draws me. Ten posts on what color shirt do you have on bug me but if one of those gives a description as to why the color shirt you wear affects your mental state for the day I will jump into that discussion over the other 9. to me it is all about content. Content is king and I make my living designing web pages so I know the importance of content to make my clients money.

I agree with you that there are in fact alot of alike discussions that i do not think would be classified as a copy cat discussion though at all. So i would just go for the one that seems to be unique although in the same category. That is what i do i also tend to answer alot more discussions with more responses than those with none!! Good Luck!!

This has happened to me. Usually I'll respond to just one, rather than both. I do check the search bar to make sure no one has the same discussion, but sometimes I'll see the same post even after searching it. It's kinda tricky, but I try just to reply to one and not think too much about it. I mean I don't necessarily rate them or negative or report abuse.

I've done that too, searched and found nothing but as soon as you start the discussion you see 3 or 4 below it...lol I don't rate them negetive or report them either. Unless of course it is copied word for word from someone else. My problem is when I do a search and come up with 8 or 10 similar discussions...I don't want to end up in the wrong one...lol

i just pick the recent discussions and read them before i respond,...also i try to respond to all of my friends discussions and that of my referrals....but if there is an discussion i cannot resist, i do it first....leaving everything aside.....also i take care to be descriptive and be fair in discussions....so why dont u try and do the same.....i think u will enjoy that

Hello: I'm brand new to Mylot but I'm really enjoying it. I hope I will be able to be of help to our members and I plan to apply only to the people I think I can assist whether it be from a past experience or perhaps from something I've learnt. I think we forget that EVERYTHING we know we have actually learnt from someone else. With this said I have to admitt I've already responsded to one person and the whole time my hair stood straight up. I noticed you responded also. The skinny girl that thought fat people shouldn't "Like Eat" I guess being a big person myself she found a way to get through my last layer. Take Care mari61960...Grandmaof2

Yes, she's quite a case isn't she...lol It is usually best to stay away from that type of discussion. If you think it may be deleted, chances are it will be eventually so you do have to be careful about where you respond in some cases. When I respond the way I did in her post, I just about count on it being deleted. I just couldn't let it slide, even though I know better...lol Sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do. I'm sure you'll do great, you certainly have the right idea..good luck and happy posting.

I only reply to discussions which I feel are genuine and sensible. Many people just create sensational topics and post spam.

I have had discussions that I started get duplicated later. I actually will respond to a series of very similar discussions at a time, if I think my response will be valid. Just because more than one person has started this discussion does not mean that they will look at someone elses. Of course I do not use the exact same response to each one, if I do this. I look at discussions as being someone really wanting to know something, and I try to oblige if I can.

i don't know, if i see a question i like and it is good, then i am going to answer this discussion! i don't spend time looking for simular discussions, it is impossible by the way that all the discussions are different with almost 69000 members! if you go for example to dormcheck it is abloslute possible to place an original discussion! less members mean less discussions!

There are no fixed dimensions to what we think so its just any topic which make me think and i can respond to it.Saying things about any topic is easy but to write what one feels should be the criterion for choosing the topic. If there is change in one posting the topic there can be varition in your responce although the topic of discussion may look same.Search for the initial topic which was started out of the same type and respond to it. This might help you.

This is why I have the tendency to stick to my friends discussions most of the time. If a discussion is similar then I just answer the first one that posted it. Say for instance the Anna Nicole Smith posts. I said what I had to say in the first one, after that I thought that it was just redundant to reply again. I think that with this many users there are always going to be some posts that are similar. I guess we just have to take our chances sometimes.
