My mom passed away a few months back and now we are finally able to start going through some of her things to share with the family. As we continued to sort through some papers we came across a home stead document signed by President Mckinaly around 1896 and recorded in arkansas at the land office in 1929. Could this be of any real value ?

You didnt say what state you now live in. I would go to ARK state treasurer's office in Little Rock where all the property deeds are kept and check there. Dont forget to make a copy of it! Here's a copy of the Homestead Act FYI. The Homestead Act was a United States federal law that gave one quarter of a section of a township (160 acres, or about 65 hectares) of undeveloped land in the American West to any family head or person who was at least 21 years of age, provided he lived on it for five years and built a house of a minimum of 12 by 14 feet (3.6 x 4.3 m), or allowed the family head to buy it for $1.25 per acre ($0.51/ha) after six months. To avoid penalizing men who were serving in the army, the length of military service was deducted from the required five year residence period for veterans. [1] The act liberalized the homesteading requirements of the Preemption Act of 1841. The act was signed into law by President Abraham Lincoln on May 20, 1862.

That's very interesting. Try to research about all the details found in the documents and try looking again to the things pf your mom maybe you can find another thing that's related to that document. :P

This land could be valuable. It could also tell you a lot about your Mom's relatives. Would you like to know more about your ancestors? This could be a great way to find out about them. You mentioned a homestead document signed by President McKinley AROUND 1896. McKinley was elected President in 1896. His first term in office was 1897 to 1901. He was assassinated during his second term. This document could be worth more than the land that is mentioned in it. History buffs might be very interested in this document. I would try to find out precisely where this land is located. County, maybe? Find out if the taxes are current. If they are you're home free. I hope this is helpful.

you can contact the town in arkansas where the land deed originated and contact the records office and check into it it should still be on file and they can give you info on it or the library might have some info too.
