It all depends on how you classify a cat. Most places in the world will classify a cat as a creature that has retractable claws. This has created a strange set of circumstances in Germany I think it was. A Cheetah is usually classified as a cat. If you own a cheetah in Germany, it must be registered as a dog, because Cheetah's do not have retractable claws. Isn't that silly, nearly as bad as, are tomatoes a fruit or a vegetable? They are in fact a fruit, but for import taxes in England, they are a vegetable.

Sorry, answering your question, yes, I think Tigers do have a common ancestry with cats.

yes they are all cats. If you will look on the internet, tigers are called cats. They just grew up so big. THey have the same origin.

Actually, I think cats have an origin in tigers. Tigers are really just big cats.
