The animals which come closest to eating their own weight are the really small mammals and birds who have incredibly high metabolisms. Example would be tiny mice and shrews, hummingbirds.

BTW it is because these animals have a larger surface area to mass ratio. That is why the answer of elephant is wrong. It has a smaller surface area to mass ratio.

Southern short-tailed shrew. a hairy mole may eat its weight in earthworms daily. I don't know any others LOL
