Building your own house is not that hard!

My husband and I were living on some land we bought in an old drafty trailer. We really wanted a house, but we couldn't really afford it. So....we got a bunch of books, bought some hammers, and did a lot of the work ourselves! We worked on the house in our spare time on weekends, and now, we have a 3 bedroom, 2 bath house that we love! There are lots of great books on carpentry and construction. If there is something you don't feel you have the strength/skills/equipment for, you can hire that part of the construction out and still save lots of money compared to just hiring someone to build the whole house for you. We did everything we thought we could handle and saved over $90,000 compared to just hiring a contractor. If anyone is interested, I can recommend books and such on building!

I would think that you would have to be strong and somewhat with an apptitude to do this building as well. I'm glad you were able to do it. I have a neighbor that bought land near us and are building their own, but he is in construction and already knows how too. Blessings, M&M

I do think it would have been a lot easier if we had experience in the trades, but my background is teaching preschool and my husband's is biology...but we still did fine! We are really happy with the results.
