No, I just don't give a damn what will ppl think about me if I didn't get their jokes; in that case I will ask for a clarification, and most of the times it turns out that the one who told the joke didn't tell it the right way, or he was telling it in the way that lost my attention :|
It actually happend many times that my comment "I didn't get it" reveals those who actually pretended to get it; so they turned out to be "dumber" than I was for not getting a "dumb joke", LoL!

I have done it many times. Most of the time I did it just because I did not want to make my friend feel stupid before others. But i must tell you its not easy as many others ma think. If you dont know then you should not react at such situations because your fake laugh will be caught by the other person and that can embarass him or her even more. If u do not get it just ask one more time because that just would be better than embarasing him or giving a chance to make a fum of yourself.

I don't laugh if i didn't get it. I am honest enough to admit that I didn't understand it. Though I know it would offend the one who gave the joke. what can I do? I am not stupid, but I am not a pretender either.

Yes I did laugh because everyone else did. I did not want to look stupid. But some of the jokes that I heard were stupid and people still laughed at them.

I did laugh jokes that I didn't know where the punch line is or I didn't think is hilarious. Especially the jokes told by my boss. I laughed in order to please him. Sometimes I laughed at the not very funny joke told by my small kid. I love him and I did not want to hurt his feeling. You may blame me slippery. But I think I need to be slippery to lead a life which is sometimes beyond my control.

It depends on the situation:
* sometime it's some kind of complimentary though it may
be bad one.
* sometimes i didn't get it but, don't want to look stupid
as you said.
* sometimes it's some kind of respecting others and caring
for their feelings.

Usually I'll just give the person telling the joke a quizzical look like "what is the punchline?" Then they explain it to me and I laugh hysterically even if I don't get or think its funny. I just think its funny to laugh after they explain it to me. Sometimes they laugh with me and sometimes they get mad lol

No, BK, I don't believe that I've ever laughed at a joke that I didn't understand. I'm quite critical of comedians anyway and don't easily laugh at their jokes.
I once had an instructor who thougt he was a comedian and I actually told him that he was not funny. He was offended but I didn't apologize to him.

laughing brings down all the barriers of adversity...
i usually laugh when i feel like that my friend is telling a joke, doesn't matter if it's good, bad, perverted, get it or not... seeing my friend smile or laugh with me really puts down any other negative thoughts and provides a very good way to alleviate stress throughout the day.. sometimes laughter can be the very foundation of a lasting friendship and, even romance... it really helps to set aside worries and sorrows... i dont do fake laughs coz i want to look like i get the joke everytime, i do it because of the FUN and the good cheerful feeling it brings along with it..
i don't know about other people, but it doesn't really hurt to laugh at your friend's joke every now and then, for the sake of happiness...

At least you seem to be a good sport. I don't actually laugh at a joke that I don't get, I would give a little smile and then ask what was the funny side. Sometimes after it is explained, it seems so blatently obvious and I would then laugh twice as much at my own stupidity.
