If you visit someone do you take something with you?

I was brought up to always take something with me if I visit someone, it could be a bottle of wine, a box of choccies, a bunch of flowers or something like that. Some people think this is a strange thing to do, but I think it is nice to show a gesture of appreciation. What do you think?

No not all the time. depends on who I'm visiting and why. I see my immediate family like every other day so sometimes I may bring a movie to watch together or something to snack on, and other days I just visit. Now If I haven't visited someone in a while then I do like to bring something most likely Most recent pic.'s of the whole family in a frame for them to keep. or something else suitable for whoever i'm visitng.

If its a close friend I would not take anything with me. I would not expect her to bring anything for me either. If it was someone I had just met and they invited me over, I might bring something with me. It all depends on the situation.

It depends on whether it is someone I seldom visit or if I see the person often. If it is a relative where I drop in every few days, I probably wouldn't take anything, but if I were invited to an acquaintance's home for dinner, I would probably take some cookies or something like that. Sometimes, a personal gift, like a book or a magazine dealing with their hobby is nice. I think people can carry this too far and end up trying to outdo each other getting something bigger and better each visit. I would hate this, but I have seen it happen.

I'm with you on this one, I was brought up to always take something to someone's house no matter how small it is! Even if I visit my closest pals I take a little something for them or for their kid(s). The only people I don't take stuff to when I visit are my parents and my brother, UNLESS I'm popping around for a special occasion like a birthday or something. Many people do see it as strange and I certainly don't expect it in return. I'm just like that and it makes me feel good to do this.
