Seriously, why don't teenagers just take the time to use correct english instead of shortening and ghettofying everything? There are some post on here that I really have a hard time understanding! What is wrong with using a full correct word? ..sorry I had to rant about this, but am I the only adult bugged by this? I'm 25 years old and have never used this type of lingo. It just seems way silly to me.

Well yes they dont realise that if they continue to get a hang of this lingo, and when they try to get proff. they wont have the easy way out with their slangs! They have to make their own style statements to prove that they are really cool when they arent at all!

I would say the same goes for SMS languages as well.

ohhh, that's where they go off. in a way, it's a bit more acceptable then..ONLY because not everyone has a little keyboard on their phone to type with. I got a sidekick for this reason. WhenI had a flip phone, I would take forever and type everything out. you know, I think this just makes me anal.

yes!! excatly. Those are my thoughts excatly. I'm surprised no one has responded to this post in that format. I'm always impressed with the new slang kids come up with.

I am 26 and I know as I grew up I used alot of slang, it was pointed out to me on a daily basis by my dad who was an english teacher. Alot of us use it and don't even realize it. Now it irritates me a little, but growing up, I know I did it alot. In fact, ghettofying is slang, lol. :-)

nono, don't get me wrong. the slang is a part of our generation. I suppose this weird kind of type is part of their generation too. but I don't know, I find it a bit ridiculous. for example. that is turned into "dat" this is turned into "dis" for is turned into "4" to/two/too is turned into "2" because is turned into "cuz/cus" (i'm guilty of using that one.. when I get super lazy..) I'm not totally sh*t talking. Using it here and there is okay, but when people make full sentences with this type of wording, it CONFUSES me and frustrates me. Because sometimes they may have something interesting to say and I'm stuck trying to decphier what the hell they're saying. once again, I'm sorry for ranting about this. I'm just seeing it more and more. dang, I feel like an old fart.

it's not just this site that I'm refering to though. have you checked out myspace? in anycase, it doesn't matter. you may be right about that! maybe I should learn how to type that way. I've been on here since sept 22nd and I've only earned 1.38 =( I may not be trying very hard.

I think that on this site people use that slang so they can type faster and get to the next post to earn their cash. :-)

Becz many of the mylot members are not from west. Our national language is another. So there are more chances for spelling and grammar mistakes. If you want let us chat in Arabic, you cant find a single spelling mistake. hehe..

I don't think she really means the grammer and spelling mistakes. i think she is talking more about the slang words that people use.

I agree that the ghetto talk is out of control! Did you know that some major colleges/universities have actually considered teaching "ebonics"....Instead of correctly teaching people to read, write and speak proper English, but for the educated people to learn the ghetto slang??!?! That is definitely something wrong with the educational system. As a professional and a mother, I have an expectation that people will learn and utilize proper English.

I agree, it is one of my pet hates. My stepson is terrible. He has had a good education but can still barely write and intelligle note, because of all the slang and shortforms he uses.

how old is your stepson? I'm going to college right now and am surrounded by 18 year olds that love to use this gross slang. I'm seriously on the verge of snaping one day.

i know that younger generations usually get hassled for the way they speak, but as far as i can see, slang is just another sign of lacking education. it really does seem like some people just don't want to learn. even adults! some of them prefer to 'sound' uneducated. i don't know what that's about.

it becomes more apparent in text messages. half the time, when I get messaged with this nonesense, I have to ask the person to repeat what they've just messaged me with. because I really don't understand them! it's like an alien language to me! ...they usually message me back with the correct words, which was pretty funny.

Me neither. Keep in mind that many people on this board are non-English speakers; some are ignorant; some are just stupid.

I don't either and neither do the kids in my country. It probably has something to do with upbringing and education.
