TV or no TV

My husband and I do not own a television for the past six months. We moved to a different city and never got around to buying a new one. After living without a television for some time, we realized we don't really missed it. The computer had totally replaced as our source of entertainment. Do you not own a television or considered the idea of being television-free for a while? If so, why did you choose not to have one and what changes its absence has brought to your lifestyle? If you are considering the idea, what is your driving motivation behind that decision?

We were without a television after our housefire. Put one into layaway and then we have had one since. We did fine without it and we all know how much time is wasted with it on and us sitting in front of it. I compute in the morning with the news programs on. Play a movie or musical cds in the afternoon. Movies have been a good way for us to be together and reduce some of the stress since our housefire and so am glad that we have had it to use as such a tool.

Just like you, I prefer movies over television. What is great about movies is that once the movie is over, you can get up and do something else. If its television, you get sucked in from one show to another and before you realized it a whole day has passed and you have done nothing. My hubby and I used movies as our time to unwind and be together at the end of a weary workday. Great stress reliever!

I could live without TV, although there are few programs that I would miss watching. I really don't watch a lot of TV, it's usually just on for background noise! If I had small children of my own now I think I would not have a set, too much garbage on there to rot their little brains!

I agree that there are some TV shows that I would enjoy watching. However, to my happy surprised I've discovered that most of them are available online if you know where to find them. Also some of the major networks have given online access to full versions of their shows, like Heroes for example, that I follow diligently online. If not, there are always DVDs and you get to watch the shows without commercials.
