Do you drive?

Driving - Driving lessons should be started at 16 and cost less.

Do you agree with the rules regarding driving in your country? I had to wait till I was 18 to start taking driving lessons, which took a couple of months and a good sum of money. At what age do they allow people to start taking driving lessons, in your country? Do you agree with it? How old were you when you started driving? Or do you prefer being driven? Is it hard to get the driver's license in your country? Or did you manage to pass at your first test? In Malta it is quite hard, I failed twice.. it's like an impossible mission.

In France you have to be 16 to be able to take driving lessons, but you can't drive on your own until you're 18. The sum of money required is amazing and also quite scary. What you find is that with all our classes, it's actually very hard to be able to get your driving license that early. Now I'm studying in the UK and I have a lot of free time with only 9 hours of classes per week (as opposed to the previous 43), so with so much time on my hands I thought I'd go for it! It's really expensive as well, and I heard it's incredibly hard to get it (some people try up to 5 times!), but if I work hard enough on it I'll get it on the first try which wouldn't be so bad money-wise :) Here you have to be 17 to be able to drive on your own... I'm also motivated by the fact that my boyfriend lives relatively close (in France) and that if I had a car it would dramatically reduce the time it takes to go see him, because I wouldn't have to wait for 5 different trains.

Hey MBourgeois! Thanks for your fine response =) Yes it would be much more convenient if you drive than wait for 5 trains! Good luck for passing your test but dont worry if you dont.. there is always another time!

Here the age for getting a driver liscence is 16. You have to wait 1 year to go pass your test if you don't take driving lesson and it,s 8month if you do. But you can still drive with someone who has his liscence. It cost near 525$ (canadians) to take all the lesson. I have 25 and I still dont't have my driver liscence for some reason. Last year I took some lesson and at the end of january I tried to pass my liscence but I failed. I will go pass it again in march.

I have passed my driving test at the first try. I was only 18. I prefer driving the car myself rather than be a passenger. I am afraid that the car in front of us will stop and the driver will not notice he stopped. OK! I know that the driver will stop but I am afraid he wouldn't

Well I'm now at the grand old age of 51 and I still don't drive. Mind you I'm hoping to change that soon as I'm booking up driving lessons but we now also have a theory test and a hazard perception test before we have the driving test so it's going to be luck that gets me through most of it haha!!
