Adult Acne and Scarring : What is a good treatment?

Since I was a teenager I had problems with pimples. I tried so many different things including Retin A, which made my skin look like I had just come back from Spring Break (in a bad way). Finally, my dermatologist put me on a birth control pill that helped clear up a lot of my acne. Well, flash forward a few years and it was time for me to get off the pill and start a family. From the time I stopped taking the pill to when my son was born my face was a nightmare. I had to wear makeup all the time to cover up the breakouts (which probably made things worse). I tried getting facials and certain creams that were safe for pregnant women, but nothing truly helped. I still have a few pimples at any given time, but my main concern is all the scaring and uneven skin tones that I have on my face as a result of all my past breakouts. So now that I’m not pregnant I really want to find something to help diminish the scarring and reduce the pimples. Can anyone recommend something for adults (that is safe) to reduce scarring and prevent future breakouts?

The best thing that I have found is proactiv. It evens my skin tone and works well against acne. It's kind of expensive, but it's best to just sign up. There's infomercials all of the time for it, but it truly works! My face gets really oily and it works wonders for me. Every time O run out and switch to something else, my face breaks out and gets kind of splotchy, but as soon as I switch back, my skin looks great again!

I'll have to try that. I have seen those Proactive commercials with the famous people on them and wondered if it really worked. I just bought some scarzone at cvs and we'll see if that helps.

Obagi has a blue peel that will get rid of acne scars. Obagi has a good line of products but can be quite pricey. If you have Ponds Age Miracle there, you can try that, it has made a lot of change in my face. I use Panoxyl for pimples that are just starting and they disappear. Diamond peel also gets rid of scars. About 6 of them done once a week will do a lot of difference.

I use tea tree oil on my break outs and it works really well. I do suggest you do it at night or when you're alone..yeah, alone is better...because it doesn't exactly smell the best. You can look up other benefits of tea tree oil as well..I'm sure there are many. :o)

I'm wondering if Mederma would work on your face. It reduces the appearance of other scars so it should work and it's safe. Plus, it won't irritate like Retin A.

Vitamin E can help with skin healing. You can try oils or ointments you put on your skin, OR vitamin E supplements. It helped when I had a dog bite scar on my face.

Will it help even with older scars like from a year ago?

Try increasing your Vitamin E intake, or at least making sure you are getting your required value. Vitamin C is also an option, and some multivitamins have trace amounts of silicon in them, which can also be of assistance. This will not help with older scars but can help with newer wounds and healing. In terms of a product to use, one that helps with breakouts, prevents future breakouts and diminishes the effects, I would recommend Proactiv. Now Rachel, if you want another note on that... it worked for me... I used it a few years back and it worked on all counts. Even today, things are still alright.
