How to Stop My Dog from Yappin'?

I love animals and I have a beautiful little dog. I love him, but I really want to find a way to stop his annoying yapping. We tried to use the high pitch sound collar which goes off each time he barks. He reacted to the thing at first and then just ignored it all together. I was not only having to listen to his incessant barking, but now it's emphasized with this high pitch sound too. What to do??? I was thinking of getting the small electric shock collar. Not sure how efficient they are and if they're dangerous. Has anyone used one of these for their dog? Any tips?? Thanks.
