somebody has posted a thread in here asking about the similarities between naruto and dragon ball z. i replied that there were bound to be some similarities because the creator of naruto was inspired and heavily-influenced by dragon ball z. naruto's hairstyle looks like super saiyan goku. when naruto is turning into a kyuubi, he looks like goku turning into super saiyan. even naruto's rasengan resembles goku's kamehameha. sandaime's summoned monkey, enma is based from sun wukong, the same one that son goku's character is based on. i bet the bringing back to life of gaara was also inspired from the numerous characters of dragon ball z who have died and was brought back to life later on. anyway, in a couple of days, the second saga of naruto is about to start and will be called naruto: shippuuden. the characters will be two and a half years older and most of them have new character designs. once again, it's similar to dragon ball's numerous sagas. it started out when son goku was just a young boy and it ended when his granddaughter pan already has grandchildren of her own. although it doesn't like goku's aged much,we've seen his son gohan as a baby, a small child, a teenager and a father. the whole thing lasted for several years. i'm not sure if kishimoto is planning to do the same thing with naruto. as much as i love naruto, i'm not sure if i want it to last that long. how about you guys? would you like it if it lasts that long? would you be interested in seeing naruto with children and grandchildren?

Now that the first series has ended and the Shippuuden has begun, I do wonder that myself. Naruto seems to be successful (compared to Bleach, and I don't know why they are seeing as how they're completely different..) it may run a lot longer. I don't think Shippuuden will go over 220 episodes though.

Sometimes I think you can have too much of a good thing. However if new stories keep evolving it's okay to make a series long...but if it's just filler episode after filler episode and it's the same kind of bad guys with just a few altered skills, then it's pointless, it should just stop.

Considering how much I enjoyed DBZ, Naruto can run for as long as it wants, just as long as the majority of it doesn't consist of lame filler.

I don't think Naruto is going to last that long and cover that much of a time span. I believe Kishimoto did the time jump as he did because to cover Naruto's growth over that time period would have taken way too long and it would have been inconceivable for Naruto to gain enough strenght to defeat Orochimaru and the Akatsuki in any shorter of a period. That was the one thing I really hated about DBZ, the characters always had some super-duper way to power up and fights lasted waaaayyyy too long. X_x Naruto has that tendency too, but at least a single fight has never lasted more than three episodes, unlike DBZ. I think it would be neat if Kishimoto, at the end of the series, allowed us to see a glimpse of Naruto achieving his dream of becoming Hokage and allowing us to see him with his children, sort of a very quick flash forward or something to end the series on.
