Your friends/family: Phone Numbers mobile phone vs. address book

Some people's phone numbers make it onto your mobile phone but others stay in your address book. Is there a reason for this? For me, I put my closest friends and family plus other important people and numbers on my phone, whilst I leave other people just in pen in my address book. I feel that people have to 'earn' the right to be on my mobile. What do you think of this? Do you have the same method?

I only put local people's phone numbers on my cell phone. There is no point in listing my brother who lives in Alaska as I can't afford to call him on the cell phone. Needless to say, I don't have many phone numbers on my cell phone. The majority of people that I know, like and love are all in the States. I keep an address book for everyone that I know. It is much handier at Christmas time when it comes to sending out cards.
