I am sorry to ask this and I am sure the answer is very easy. Can I connect my laptop and my desktop so I transfer files without having to copy everything to a cd first? I am sure there is some simple way to do this I just am not sure. Thank You.

Thank you all very much! Now I least have basis of knowledge and know pretty much what I need to get when I go to the store. I just hate walking in there having no clue what I am talking about, some of the young adults make me feel like a dim wit. Thanks again to all of you!

Yes you can. Simply bridge the connections in your network. If you have a router/hub/switch that is. If you want a simpler way try using bluetooth. That is if your desktop has bluetooth. Most laptops are equipped with both IR and bluetooth.

See if you can network the computers using netwrok line. If you don't have network cards installed on both pcs u can try buying them or getting a router which does not require network cards(ie with two usb interfaces) this way u can network the computers & tranfer files & even play multiplayer
