So the seven deadly sins: lust, greed, envy, pride, gluttony, wrath and sloth....Why are they considred sins? I would consider them just human nature. It is natural to lust after a person, it is natural to be proud of yourself, to want revenge in certain cases, to just be lazy...what do you think?

Yes they are all part of our human nature but there should also be limitations for it. Everone is greedy at some point of time either that they want bigger cake or the better seat in a bus ,expensive clothes but there should be a limit to it. Also cheating is definitely a unforgivable sin

so i guess they would be sins if taken to the extreme? and yeah cheating would be considered a sin but what if you lusted after your spouse? still a sin?

well obviously you're influenced by strong religious convictions, so anything we tell you from a rational point of view, i am not sure it will help you, but will try. From a rational point of view, lust for your partner is not only normal, but healthy, it means that you love and desire your partner not only affectively, but also physically. Don't take those dogmas to the extreme...most of them were written down thousands of years ago according to the customs that existed then, not now.

If their was no lust in the world, the planet would be a pretty empty place.

Humans are born sinners. So with that said, don't you think basic human nature could be considered sin? I think it's fairly obvious why those 7 things are considered sins. For example, envy could lead a multitude of different situations such as stealing or adultery. Wrath could lead to murder. Greed could also lead to stealing. They are the basis for other sins. Kinda off topic but if you want to watch a movie dealing with the 7 deadly sins, watch Se7en with Brad Pitt and Morgan Freeman. It's one of the best movies I've ever seen and very thought provoking.

That is a great movie. Both Pitt and Freeman do an excellent job at portraying their characters. I really enjoyed it.

i have seen that movie. So they what you are saying they are like gateway sins? something simple leads to something bigger. I really dont see how liking a persons coat could lead to stealing. And yes wrath could lead to murder..watch eye for eye for that.

I agree with some of the above answers that you can describe them as sins once they go extreme. Thing is, the 7 sins are related to religion and lust is a sin; odd thing is that they also tell people to reproduce? Reproducing without lust is a pretty hard thing :P

Just because it is human nature as you put it does not mean that it isn't a sin. Since the garden of eden, man has been sinful in every way. The only one that wasn't was Jesus, because he was the son of God. These sins make us human. It is through forgiveness that we are given another chance to be like Jesus.

I dont think Jesus was without sin either. In a religions cass i was in our teacher told us of the Book of Thomas that was removed from the Bible because it showed Jesus more human than it should have.

the Bible is only a book of symbols...cannot be taken literally like some extremists do. It's the main idea, what it wants to transmit, what must be considered...not the way it is said.
