Why to ban social networking istes liek Orkut??

Recently, all social networking sites are being blocked by different firms. The reasons to this are very much not clear. Can anyone shed some proper light on this? You also discuss your thoughts regarding such actions!! I personally don't really find it useful,a s we end up searching for proxies, which help us in accessing these sites, and which are potentially unsafe as they make the system more vulnerable to attacks!!
