How do I find out if someone has the name of a band that has been copyroghted?

I don't think a bands name can be copyrighted
although a band can register the band name as a trademark
to search this to see if a bands name is proteced in this way. i found these site for USA trademark's www.upsto.gov/web/menu/search.html

www.bandname.com
