Speed Reading techniques: have you tried them?

I used to read a lot especially books that make me think and interact with. Someone gave me a book on speed reading and said it will help me a lot. I tried to use the techniques but they don't seem to work for me. Maybe I haven't really understood the techniques yet and lacked more practice. I can gain speed but my comprehension suffers.
Do you know anything about speed reading?

Yes i have tried he speed reading techniques but i did not get any good results. You are right in that the the comprehension suffers. Besides i always used to recollect the rules laid down whenever i used to read rather than reading and enjoying the passage. Before i purchased the book, i was a silent reader, i didnt mouth my words or listen to the sound of words in my mind, but after i purchased the book and read the rule, i started listening to the sound of words in my mind. So it worked the opposite way.I finally gave it up and i am content with the pace i am reading right now.
