marijuana laws

I think that the current way we handle marijuana is totally unjustifiable. Why do people who get caught with pot get a longer prison sentence than a murderer? Why is there mandatory minimum sentencing for marijuana users but not for users of many other, more serious, drugs. And how can this be considered a class I drug? It does not cause physical dependency and there has not been a single death caused by marijuana use. An average person would have to smoke an estimated 100lbs. of marijuana per minute for 15minutes to cause death. This drug also has many medicinal purposes. For example it can be used to reduce tremors, get rid of nausea caused by chemotherapy, it can be an appetite stimulant for AIDS patients and anorexics. Also it can be used to cure pain, asthma, and many other diseases. This "drug" should be, at the least, allowed for medicinal use if not personal and recreational use. Many government reports have found marijuana to have good uses and to be less dangerous then even alcohol. What is your viewpoint on this ever so contraversial topic?
