Im a member of a college-based organization and we have a yahoogroup account. I noticed that some people are posting messages which are meant for only one person and not for the group as it is indicated on their subject, the name of that person. So I posted something which tells the group that if they are posting a message meant for only one person, they should just send it to the email address of that person as a private message. Coz they just add to the bulk and its not even for the group to read. Was i wrong? coz some said that i am shutting the members to post messages, to talk while the purpose of the group account is that we could have a group talk. I agree to that purpose, but posting a message with a subject stating only one name means that its only for one person right? and it would not make a group talk. Was i wrong?

You were not wrong. If the message is for one person, it is for that person's private email address, unless it is understood that all members could benefit. For instance, in a writing critique group, you may be writing to member @====.com telling them that "you had Bill suddenly appear in the room, and we have no idea whether he materialized, came through the door, or through the window." Such would be beneficial to all, but in most cases, if your message was intended for one person, it should go to the private email of that person. I hate it when two members start to have private conversations as if the others do not exist, which is what usually happens.

i hate it too when that happens. and it usually happens in our yahoogroup. that's the reason why i started to limit my replies there. it felt like it was private. ^.^

No, you are not wrong. Its a GROUP. But you have to contact the owner of the group to complain and the moderator/s. The owners email address is on the group's homepage on the bottom.

Yeah i guess i should've notified the moderator first. But i've got a point right? Messages should be meant for the group and not just for one person. Otherwise, they are ruining the essence of a group mail.
