Great discussion. I can't say it made me a better person but it made me appreciate the courage and bravier that our servicemen and women do for our countries. I am from Australia an early 2005, we lost a team of service men and women in a helicopter accident in Nias, watching this movie brought back the fears but also the pride I have for these people. I say fear as my husband is a Navy sailor and I fear that he will be injured or killed in the line of duty every day but I also feel great pride in what my husband does for this country. This movie showed what courageous people the "Coastie's" are and how they save lives every single day.

I really enjoyed this movie, I thought it was really sad that his wife couldn't stand by him when he was making such an impact on young lives doing what he was doing, not to mention saving lives. Ashton was awesome, reminded me of my son a lot.

I thought this was a great movie. I've always had a great appreciation for all of our servicemen. My fiance and many friends are firemen and my cousin is serving in the coast guard. But beyond that I felt this movie was a great example of what one believes something is like and what is actually is. The instructors in the class wanted to teach the class by running and taking tests but Costner threw them in a pool with ice. Hands on is the only true way to prepare someone for such an experience.

It makes me appreciate what the Coast Guard does more than I did before I watched the movie.
