I am thinking about purchasing an ipod. There seems to be a huge hype over these mp3 players. Are they really all that they are made out to be, or are there better ones out there? are they reliable, because i see a lot of faulty or broken ipods on ebay, which isn't a good sign. The one in particular that i am after is a 30gb video one. need the advice of those that own one, thanks!

I bought the Ipod video 30 gb two months ago. For me, it has never been a pain in the neck. It is full of things to do, games, videoa, songs, pictures, contacts, notes and linuix is meant to come out for it soon. I suggest you buy one, as they are very handy. The only problem with the Ipod is its weight, its is quite heavy. I like heavy things, so that does not matter for me. If you want to buy a light one I suggest the iPod nano. YOu cannot watch videos on it, but it is as small and good as you get DO NOT BUY THE IPOD SHUFFLE, YOU CANNOT SEE WHAT SONGS YOU ARE LISTENING TO

its good to hear a positive comment about the ipod. I too don't mind if it is heavy or bulky, because then you know you still go it, lol. I was thinking of the ipod nano, but i really want a bigger memory than the nano offers, hence why i have gone for 30gb. Thankyou for your comments though, i will take it into consideration.

I have a 30gb. It is ok when it comes to music and photo and data storage. Itunes is great in helping me manage the files I put on my ipod. I haven't tested it on movies or TV shows though because I have to have a program to convert movie files to what is compatible with the ipod. I don't like it being too heavy to carry around and too bulky to put it on my pocket though. And the expensive crystal casing I bought does not help much in protecting it from scratches and dust. And one more thing, I bought mine 6 months ago and I am already encountering a problem with it. It freezes like when the computer hangs. I don't know what caused this, resetting it a couple of times fixes the problem for a while but it drains the battery big time. I don't really know if I just have a defective one or what but I hope this info helps you in your choices.

it does sound like yours may be defective or that ipods are generally unreliable, but either way i will take note of your comments, they are extremely helpful, thanks :)

I have a one gig nano and i love it. Its a lot better than luggin a bunch of CDs and a portable CD player. The only reason i dont like it si its not enough storage but it was good when i bouthg it. Just make sure the one u get isenough storage for everything u need.
