When your spouse is upset about something you have no control over,

how do you help him/her feel better?

You're their partner for a reason and it's always best to open your ears and arms in a time of mourning. Even though something's out of your control doesn't mean that you'll make them feel better. Psychiatrists to me are paid friends. People don't want to hear other people's problems and when you have a spouse, you become that friend to them. You're everything to them. You can't mend everything so just listening to them will take a little bit of the emotional weight off their shoulders.
