My aquarium got fulled with little snails! I searched a bit and I found out that their name is "California Horn Snail". Did you ever had this problem, and do you know how to solve it? Thanks!

Hi there, I have had the same problem with those extremely irritating snails. The best thing to do would be to put a small dish with a piece of boiled spinach into the aquarium. Do this for about a week, at night, just before you switch the aquarium lights off. Then, every morning, while it's still dark out, take the dish out, it will be crawling with snails, all attracted to the food. The problem with this method is how tedious it can get, but if you are dilligent enough, it should solve your problem. Another method would be to introduce snail eating fish such as Clown Loaches and Chinese Algae Eaters. These fish are 'hardcore' snail eaters, introduce a few Clown Loaches, and your snail problem should be resolved. Chinese Algae Eaters are slightly aggressive, so I suggest you go with Clown Loaches. Only resort to chemical means if all else fails, chemicals should be a last resort, as they could adversely affect your fish and plants. Consider stripping the aquarium down to it's bare essentials before utilising chemical methods. Alternatively, you should always check any plants, ornaments or fish that you are about to use for signs of snail eggs or snails themselves. Hope I could help!!

Don't use chemicals, this is the absolute worse thing you can do. I suggest that you get the clown loaches. We had a huge snail infestation - well over 100 snails - (that what I get for not checking out the plants I buy) and we put two in a 55 gallon and they had the snail population down to zero in a week.

Hi, While I don't have a fish tank up now... I have kept fish before, and remember how annoying those snails can be! I have found a website with some good suggestions on getting rid of them : www.aquariumfish.net/information/get_rid_of_small_snails.htm You can also crush them and most fish will eat them that way. Hope this helps some ... good luck with them little buggers!
