Are the CHARITY organizations genuine ???????

February 17, 2007 7:04am CST
i regularly come across advertisements of many organizations asking for monetorial help on the name of charity,,,,, for cancer, for orphans, and for many other reasons. But if there are really so many charity organixations working all over the world and in every country then why is that country and the whole world with the same problems ????????? Have u ever seen the genuine financial reports of any charity organization ??? Can u name one such organization who is really working for wat they r being formed for ??? i dont think there is even 1

There are some genuine charity organisations out there, but majority of them are scams. They form these organisations for there own benefits. Most of them have made fortune out of it in the name of charity. There was this one that kept calling my house about a police charity organisation, until i asked a police officer friend about it, he said i should ask the badge number of the person. The next time they gave me a call, i asked the caller for his badge number, instantly he dropped the call and that was the last time i got call from them. So make sure you check where you put your money for charity.

By asking a phone solicitor one question we can discern between reputable and disreputable charities: "Are you a volunteer for the organization, or are you a third party telemarketer?" This question usually throws them off-guard, and they are obligated to answer it honestly if they work for a 3rd party. Third-party solicitors generally take a 40%-60% cut of what they collect. If the charity doesn't have enough volunteers who care about the cause to help in the fund-raising effort, it's usually a good sign that it's not a reputable charity.

I dont think every CHARITY organizations are genuine... most of them are fake. Celebrities have charity organizaations of their own to hide their actuall income in the name of them so that they can get rid of income tax. But there are genuine ones. I know one in kerala called NAVAJEEVAN which is really meant for oldage people and orphans. Better u do visit the organization and understand it by urself.

No, by and large, they are not. Too high of a percentage of donations never reaches those in need. The most horrific example is the United Way and I am sorry to report this. First, the United Way uses coercive pressure to get workers to agree to payroll deductions. Often business owners will demand, in a low-profile way, that employees sign on. In one instance my boss, an Illinois newspaper publisher, was on the local United Way board. He inappropriately demanded the newspaper staff write and publish stories about how great the United Way was, even if the stories carried no news value. He forced this and it became uncomfortable and, frankly, against most journalistic ethics of which I am aware. Because of that experience I will never give to a large charity, even church-linked ones. Instead, I will buy goods and services and give them privately to those I know who are in need.

there are innumerable number of charity organiosations.but they are norm, ally run by wealthy people who want to convert black money into white money.that helps to the required extent of survival for the poor and deprived but dosent give much oppurtunity to lead a good ambitious life.there may be one or two charity organisations working here and there.so we cant accuse all charity organisations.i think the thought of charity organisation and service grew in india with mother teressa as an example.

There are some genuine charities but even they take the lion's share profit and send like 10-25% to where it is supposed to go.

I gave like $10.00 once for an animal one, and another $10.00 I think it was for the one that deals with kids cancer St. Judes. If I had the money, I'd do it again. I would hope they are real! I would feel HORRIBLE if I thought it was fake. But I'm sure they are!

wel.. there are lots of charity organizations that are really genuine and working for many good causes. but we have got to be really cautious when we provide some monetary help because its important to know the nature of the cause that those organizations are working. Its better to support those organzations that are really well knwon than those that does not have the backing of a powerful person. well. i am sure you must have heard about bill gates-melinda gates charity organization and they have been doing too good. they are working towards the cause of HIV positive victims.. and their contribution is fabulous!

Good question! An associate of mine was regularly giving to a charity that I knew to be disreputable. I suggested that he check out ... charitynavigator.org It's a good resource that can help us all to make more informed decisions regarding charitable contributions. They rank international charities based on their performance. They take into account a number of factors including: How much of every dollar is spent in administration vs. how much goes to the intended recipient. How much is spent on marketing? The amount of cash reserves the charity has. How fiscally responsible the organization is. Hope this helps!

I know two International organizations that are really true. The first is Lions Clubs International, there are almost 1,000 Lions Clubs all over the world (www.lionsclubs.org). You'll find some in India. Usually the name related to the city's name like Lions Club Bangalore Sanjaynagar, Lions Club of Bankura. This organization has a program for youngster, a program that took form similar organization. The program's name is Leo Clubs. I've joined Leo Clubs in Indonesia, the name is Leo Club Surabaya Kharisma. The second is Rotary club (www.rotary.org). This international organization is focused in health, so they provide medicines or hospital equipments.

The way initially these organizations started, people were happy that there are some out there who can help... As time passed, these organizations became more of commercial looking for donations from other countries and subsidiaries from their own country....And grabbing land for their own self benefit and nothing reaching the poor. Even though people and cops working their way to curb but you can some of the big wigs are still behind the scenes to encourage these cheaters ... Shame on them.. I suggest we the learned people should raise our voices against such institutes..

There are so many fraudulant charity organizations nowadays. It seems like even the Red Cross is skimming a little off the top. There's a few good ones out there, though. Just keep looking.
