Bergers, stuffed rolls, pizza and even Kentucky Fried Chicken are often reffered to as junk food. Can anybody tell me what makes these food items junk? Or can any one give a definition for junk food?

Junk food is a term describing food that is perceived to be unhealthy or having poor nutritional value. fast food such as hamburgers, and French fries supplied by companies such as McDonald's, KFC and Pizza Hut are often perceived as junk food whereas the same meals supplied by more up-market outlets such as Pizza Express or Nando's are not despite often having the same or worse nutritional content. Some types of chips that are said to be "junk food" may actually be partially beneficial because they may contain polyunsaturated and mono unsaturated fats. However, since they are fats, the intake of these should be kept to a minimum. It should also be understood that the detrimental effects of the empty calories may outweigh the benefits of the unsaturated fats. These foods tend to be high in sodium, which may contribute in causing hypertension (high blood pressure) in some people.

Salad is ok, but the chips are they safe? Deep fried in oil they add up a lot of unnecessary fat making it junk.

Junk food I think would be defined as foods that have a lot of grease and are not as nutrious as vegetables, fruits, steak and potatoes.

i think junk food means a lot of fast food but then not all fast food is junk food..but any food thats processed and not fresh so its made in large amounts so 500 pizza slices or sausage rolls and hot dogs with processed meat or patties with odds and ends of veg its kind of fast food leftovers made into quick meals
