Would you let your daughter be a Little Beauty Queen?

This week I watched an episode of the TV show, Bones that dealt with the Childrens Beauty Queen Circuit. Personally, I think it's abhorrent that these young girls are expected to perform and look like they are much, much older. When do these little girls ever get a chance to be children? Childhood is so fleeting now, why can't this be only for older teens and young women? What do you think?

I don't even think they should be for teens and older women. These types of contests serve no useful purpose to society. All they do is teach girls that how they look is more important than anything else. As for the parents who put their little kids through this stuff, they ought to be locked up. Slapping on make-up and making these kids look older is vile. Don't they realize how many sickos are out there today and are probably sexually objectifying these kids...the whole thing makes me sick......sorry for the rant.

Rant away, I agree with you. I did feel though that at 18 and older, the girls could make up their own minds, rather than mothers living vicariously through their children. Saying that, as a child my daughter rode horses competitively. It was entirely her own choice, I had a bad experience with a horse as a child and have NO desire to ride them! It did involve a lot on my part, large amounts of time spent at the stables, helping her to wash, groom, plait the mane etc for competitions. Watching her practice, or have lessons. I too learnt a lot about horses. Just before her 14th birthday she decided she'd had enough. She's only ridden for fun since.

I have no use for any type of 'beauty' contest. Beauty is measured by what is on one's insides, not their external self. These types of pagents and crap teach all females (of all ages) that they have to change their external self to be measured as beautiful. I especially hate it for young girls and teens. I am convinced that these beauty pagents are just one more reaason that we are having such a problem with eating disorders, getting plastic surgery at younger and younger ages, wearing makeup at the ripe 'ole age of 8 and 9 yrs, and what not! The last time I went to get my hair cut, a local lady brought in an 8-year old girl for her hair to be dyed...in preparation for a beauty pagent. She also had her eyebrows plucked/shaped and her fake nails put on. That little 8-year old should have been out running and playing with her friends ...not having her d@mned eyebrows done!!!

I agree. I don't think that children should be trying to look older and be expected to do things like that. They are children and should be outside playing, and having fun while they are young. Life is short, and they should learn to enjoy it, not learn how to be older.
