I was just wondering who makes their own baby food and what do you use to make it? My mother in law just gave me a food processor to start making baby food with! I cant wait to use it. I am going to start in March.

I'm such a dork, my mother in law just bought me one and our son is way past the baby food stage, I wish I had it earlier but I've already been researching online for things like this, I'm a planner lol, we're trying for another one, here's a site http://www.wholesomebabyfood.com I wish I would have had a processor earlier, once my son was okay with textures, I just mashed everything with a fork and fed it to him, his favorite was avocado!

DS is 14 months and has always eaten regular food. Veggies you need to cook until they're soft, then puree. Leave chunks in as they get better at eating. Meats - cook, then puree and add a little milk/water until it makes a paste. Fruits - puree in season or just used canned, no sugar added fruits out of season. Those little cups of unsweetened applesause are great to keep in the diaper bag. Cook up a bunch of one food and freeze it in individual portions in an ice cube tray. Then keep the cubes in a ziplock bag. When they start eating, just thaw out one, but as they eat more, thaw more. DS just had 6 cubes of rice with turkey & peas for lunch today. I didn't feel like cooking anything special, so we just pulled out some leftovers.

I have been doing it for years my oldest daughter is 23 and I was making it for her in a blender.instant mashed potatoes are great as you can use them to because you can make them thinner if you need to plus as a thickner in foods that are to runny as a thickner. It is great I do it now with a food prcessor for the grand kids.My grandparents did it with a tomato juicer when I was young.

I make the majority of my daughters pureed foods. On occasion I buy organic jars of food, especially when it is somthing that doesnt turn out well when I try to make it myself. I make it the night before, because without adding a preservative it doesnt last long...even in the fridge. I use a food processor and depending on the food Im making, use water, goats milk, rice cereal or a little juice to make it the desired flavor or consistency.
