Showing gratitude

Someone does something for you, without asking you, that you didn't want them to do. Do they have a right to be annoyed if you aren't as appreciative or grateful as they would like you to be? You do say thank you, but just aren't effusive about it.

I always say Thank You for a good deed done. I prefer to pay a person his due than take advantage of his labor and generosity. Better to owe no one any gratitude.
