Some parents have favorites. My sister in law has two girl. The oldest usually gets a genuine gold necklace the other although with the same style but not pure gold. The older had the best things in life while the other an ordinary item will do.

My older 2 girls are only 20 months apart, so they get a lot of the same stuff. I do not favor one over the other. I do not allow anyone to play favorites with them either. I don't favor our 8 week old though she does have more of my attention right now. My older girls are understanding that the baby can not do anything for herself so mommy & daddy has to. That will change as she gets older.

I have two children. One is 4 years old, the other one is 6 months old. I try to be fair and not to favorite one over the other. I think I am doing a good job because the older one never feel like I pay more attention to the baby.

Poor other one. I only have one daughter but am expecting the next one soon. What you say sounds terrible and I can't imagine what the younger one will think when she figures it out. I've seen these things happen before and because the favourite child is so spoilt, in 20 years time they get bailed out of prison by their parents and defended the most obscene things. The other child is busy studying away at a little of his or her own. By him or herself. I hope this does not happen to your nieces though. Maybe you can give your sister some hints. Parents are a little sensitive when others butt in... but it would help her in the long run! And before it's too late.
