I am allergic to dogs and cats too but I have 2 cats. I used to cough and sneeze and all but after a while I get immune and the dander does not bother me. Now, when I visit my friend in Florida, her cats and dog make me feel awful for the first few days and I have to take allergy medicine. After having been around them steadily for a few days, I am ok. Some people are more allergic than others. Hope you get better with the allergies. Do you want a pet are were you just curious about others' allergies? Feel better...

awwwww im sorry to her it. i was allegic too, but i love the pets to much so i decided to annoy my doc till he did a allergic test with me, then he gave me pills, with low doses of the substances which caused the allergie. after some months i was used to it and im immune now. maybe you can try it too

it's possible- i had food allergies as a kid and grew out of them as a teen, but aiborn allergies started in my 20's and i still have them at 42. If you have health ins you can ask your dr for a spray or pill that is fast acting that would help you in those situations.

Usually it's the dander that people are allergic to. The good news if that there are several breeds of dogs that are dander free. If you look up "hypoallergenic dog breeds" on www.wikipedia.com, you will find a list of dogs that are said to cause fewer reactions in allergy suffferers. Please note the word here is "fewer" and not none. Another thing to think about is where the dog had been. For years I thought I was allergic to dogs because I would have a sneezing fit everytime I was around a friends dog. It turns out that the dog spent most of it's time outside and rolled in the grass a lot. I am very allergic to grass and pollen. If the dog is groomed on a regular basis, I am fine. My mother also suffered from dog allergies as a kid. Thankfully she outgrew it as an adult and also because her family got a pet dog. Being exposed to it helped her body get used to fighting against it. If hypoallergenic dogs are still too much for you, I would talk to my doctor about getting allergy shots. Allergy shots can be unpleasant because like vaccines, they will actually inject you with the thing you are allergic to. The good news is that over time they will help to boost your immune system to be more effective when when fighting off allergic reactions. I really hope you can find something that will work for you because dogs are really great pets.

It is usually the dander you are allergic to. You can always take an allergy pill before being around them, then you can enjoy them for hours. Most of the time you will not outgrow or overcome an allergy like this.

Have you ever been around a poodle? Poodles have hair and not fur, so a lot of people with allergies have them. That's the reasoning behind the "whatever-a-poo" dogs that are being bred these days.
