Kevin Mitnick? Good guy o bad guy?

Do u know who Kevin Mitnick is? All the computer addicted must know something about him... He`s one of the bigest hackers from the world, he comited some computer crimes and he was in prison for this! But.. when he was in prison.. a lot of people protested for him to be released! (i even see a site named "free Kevin"). Why? He`s a good guy or a bad guy? (Sry about my english.. i hope u will understant the point :D)
