Anyone else working on a screenplay? I'm just starting mine over again. I tried to escape writing about my life, but that's where the story is. I wanted to change the things that were ugly and painful and paint my life the way I always dreamed it would be. What could changing a detail here and there hurt? It killed the story, it broke the connection, I loved the characters, but I couldn't connect with the life they were living. I now realize that I have to tell the truth, I can't sugarcoat it to make people feel better, or to make it a fairy tale. I have to pull those memories up out of my soul and put then down on paper.

I'm not working on a screenplay but have for several years been working on a book, much the same as your case the stories from my life and also like you when I have attempted to change the truth to as you put it "sugarcoat" I lost my passion for the writing. I honestly believe that the best results will be obtained by writing with passion.
