The Hobbit movie

I have heard so much different info on this. Are they making the movie based on the book The Hobit. Will it be by the same director ad the Lord of the Rings movies? Will it have the same actors in it? I loved this book, as well as the Lord of the Rings series and hope they make it into a movie!
