How would you describe motivation?

I would describe it as a way of helping someone by chanting them and giving them hope? How would you describe motivation?

Motivation to me is to stimulate, inspire and encourage a person to take active interest in things that they are doing.

Motivation is a way to boost somebody's self esteem.It is a way to show a path to a person that will instill self confidence in him.This is my way of defining motivation.
