Children and report cards-A concern of mine

I have heard that schools are going to put a child's BMI on their report card. Why do they need to put your child's body mass index on the report card. This is a health issue between your child's pediatrician and you. Why do the school's need to intervene. Some kids do weigh more than they should do to poor eating habits, lack of exercise, and medications. What do you think?

I think they need to bring back recess and P.E. Parents need to limit t.v. computer and video games. When my girls tell me they are bored I tell them to go outside. I see the schools being almost as much at fault as parents. But no the school does not need to put my childs wieght on thier report card

I believe the schools are butting in too much in this regard . In the schools down here they have all the children in our area all in the same school . They have chips and pop etc that you can buy out of the machines but only if you are in high school and if one of the younger children is caught with anything out of it they lose what they have and get a detention for it , if they are caught a couple of times they can be expelled from school for it . I don't believe this is up to the school to decide what our children have . I feel this should be up to us as the parents . When my children were younger they wanted a poweraid so I got them one for school , when they got to school they were confiscated from them as this apparently wasn't alright with the school . I was really upset about this as a note had never come home to tell us our children were not allowed to have them in the school and it was a treat I had got for my children for good behavior . I didn't have a problem with my children having it and didn't see it as any right to the school to take it from them and leave them without a drink for the day . I don't feel the school adding this to the report cards is going to change anything so again I feel like they are sticking their nose in where it should be no concern of theirs . As a teacher their job is to teach and I don't feel that this is teaching more then it is telling parents where they are going wrong in raising their children .

I can see your point, but unfortunately, there are some parents out there who are so completely unaware of their own childrens' health that it has to be pointed out to them in a way that they can't ignore. They have to know that others are noticing the child's health and that they need to step up and do something for their child. You can't force them to of course, but atleast it should be pointed out to them.
